Our
Challenge
A socio-economically vulnerable environment, dysfunctional relationships between children or young people and their family members or adults, or a cancer diagnosis in adults are situations that represent a major emotional impact. Our challenge is for boys, girls, adolescents and young people, as well as adults with a cancer diagnosis, to be able to manage their emotions and handle emotional reactions to any stimulus.
Just as the most profound changes in people’s lives require time, we are aware that setting up innovative and differentiating models of intervention in the conventional mental health care network requires a thorough assessment of their impact and sustainability, over and above the time they take and the knowledge they generate.

How we
do it

We analyse how the emotional and well-being needs of boys, girls, young people and adults with cancer are taken care of.

We seek out innovative ideas and initiatives, both nationally and internationally, based on the evidence.

We define projects in cooperation with our social, educational and health partners, entities and agencies.

We participate in executing and implementing projects in order to make them a reality.

We assess projects in order to advance in quality of care applying an approach of continuous improvement.

We strengthen projects toassure their impactand sustainability.

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING?
Emotional well-being is a broad concept related to the subjective experience of feeling well, in harmony and at peace.
According to the WHO, emotional or mental health is “a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

KALIDA FOUNDATION

At Nous Cims we have promoted Kalida, a psychosocial care model in which people going through oncological processes are welcomed, accompanied and supported. Its first centre in Spain, Kalida Sant Pau, offers emotional, social and practical support free-of-charge, and is open to any person with cancer and people in their immediate environment. The entity fills a health care gap that cannot always be handled by the healthcare system, given that only one out of ten people with cancer receives psychological care.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
The emotional well-being of children and young people can be influenced by different socially and economically vulnerable environments, by family relationships or by the dysfunctional dynamics of adults who are supposed to be serving as role models for the development of these children and young people. We generate initiatives that help boys and girls, young people and families who are in a situation of psychological suffering or who are at risk of being so. We attend to everyone within their surrounding environment (family, school, social entities, etc.).
Emotional support
in oncological processes
Likewise, adults who are diagnosed with cancer suffer due to this major life change, which represents a major emotional impact. The shock created by a cancer diagnosis affects each person differently. Our projects provide a support that improves their quality of life and allows the person and the people around them to face each stage of the oncological process, even after the cancer has been overcome.
