A PROJECT WITH SYNERGIES, COLOMBIA

This initiative seeks to contribute to guaranteeing the human right to adequate food in Vaupés, a region with a majority of indigenous inhabitants, which has the highest prevalence of stunting in children under 5 years of age and one of the highest prevalence of anaemia and double burden (stunting and overweight), and triple burden (anaemia added to the above) nutrition.

The improvement of the nutritional situation of these communities, especially of indigenous children, will be done through the training and empowerment of indigenous leaders and caregivers, implementing strategies of territorialized food and nutrition education with a community and family approach.

In this way, we strengthen the leadership skills and food knowledge of indigenous women, reinforcing local agro-food and ecosystemic communities and promoting child-rearing and care guidelines for children, infants and pregnant women to help prevent prevalent childhood diseases associated with malnutrition in Vaupés.
